An Apology.

I have had it pointed out to me that I have made a large error in my previous post: Mummy Blogging. Just how important is it? The post was largely a critique of an article published in the New York Times, and entitled: Honey, Don't Bother Mommy. I'm Too Busy Building My Brand. I had credited the author as being 3 times Pullitzer nominated photo-journalist Monica Lopossay, when in fact the article was written by American journalist, Jennifer Mendelsohn.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Ms Lopossay - I will edit the original post so that it credits the real author immediately.

If any readers would care to look at the comments to my original post, you will see one written by Kevin Dayhoff who is a colleague of Ms Lopossays and points to the fact that Lopossay is in fact a woman who has worked hard to promote societal change through her photography.

  1. Gappy,

Some time when I have an extra moment I will regale you with some of my mistakes, one of the most humorous of which was when I wrote about "Paul of Taurus." To which an old crusty editor friend of mine sent me an e-mail that he was not aware that Paul of Tarsus sold Ford automobiles.

Mistakes happen. My insight into Ms. Lopossay is that behind that hard-edged camera lens is a rather friendly professional who understands that in the media-world, stuff happens.

Personally and professionally I have no problem with mistakes. My problem is with folks who do not take personal responsibility for their mistakes. That does not appear to be an issue with you. As a matter of fact, your forthrightness in dealing with this matter demonstrates a gravitas and integrity that commands attention to your work and lends value to your writing. Ya know, show me someone who never makes a mistake and I'll show you someone who isn't doing anything with their life or profession.

So now that we have come to "A full circle back to the butterfly and its flapping wings," keep up the good work. Onward through the fog.

  3. Hi Gappy,

Thank you for responding so quickly to Kevin's eagle-eyed observation (and thank you Kevin!) Posting this correction speaks to your professionalism, sincerity for your work and your accountability.

    All the best,

    Monica Lopossay

  4. Mr Dayhoff seems like a nice guy, pointing out an error but not on the high and mighty.

  5. Thanks for the supportive comments people.

I can't help but laugh at myself really - to have made such a mistake on an article which was supposed to be about mummy bloggers deserving more credibility - the irony really isn't lost on me!

Please don't judge the rest of the mummy blogging community by my silly mistake!

Oh well. All you can do in these situations is admit your mistake, put it right where you can, and learn from it so you don't make it again.

    Hopefully that's what I've done.

    Gappy.

  6. Gappy, You wrote: “Please don't judge the rest of the mummy blogging community by my silly mistake!” Actually we may draw conclusions from the “mummy blogging community” – (I hate that term)… Such folks lend real value to society’s dialogue because the writing comes straight from real life, with no pretensions.

Furthermore, you are a credit to your genre of writing because you demonstrated depth and character by taking responsibility. There really isn’t more one could ask.

Now sit back and relax. You have now accumulated another great “war story,” of which, now that it has been addressed, laughter is the best approach.

  7. Well done Gappy, you are a woman to admire.

Now, what I want to know is how Mr D found your little ol'blog in the first place? That would have freaked me out more than anything!

    MD xx

  9. I'm with Dotterel, I'm afraid. Who? But joking aside, mistakes happen. You've done all you can to rectify things and that's the main thing. :-)

  10. Wow Gappy I'm more than impressed with your following (even if it was for the wrong reasons hehehe). I truly believe everything happens for a reason. I didn't get a chance to comment on your original post but I did read it and as usual you handled a contentious topic with balance and objectivity and it read brilliantly x
